Anne E. Wiltshire, a descendant of Charles Kay, has kindly supplied this information via Janet Byrnes:

Charles Kay, the eldest child of Charles Samuel Morris and Mary (Conen), was born on March 24th 1805 in London and baptised on April 21st 1805 at St Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury, London.

On November 3rd 1819 Charles was apprenticed to Charles Reid a silversmith of Mitchell Street, St Luke's, London. He was granted Freedom from his apprenticeship on February 14th 1829 when he became a qualified Copperplate Printer. On March 4th 1827 he married Elizabeth Garfield at St John's, Hackney, London. Elizabeth was a daughter of Jeremy Garfield and Martha Layton. In the 1841 census Charles, his wife Elizabeth and their children, Mary, Eliza, Emma and Charles were living at Baldwin Place, London with his occupation given as Copperplate Printer.

After Charles moved his family to Australia in 1842 he was employed by the Postmaster General's Department of NSW and printed the first Postage Stamps in Australia in 1850.
Charles died on December 8th 1879 of Apoplexy and Paralysis. His address was given as 13 Little Norton Street, Surry Hills, NSW. Charles was buried on December 10th 1879 in the Balmain Cemetery, Sydney. Elizabeth died on August 24th 1875 of Disease of heart and Decay of Nature. Her address was given as Phillip Street, Sydney. Elizabeth was buried on August 5th 1875 also in Balmain Cemetery. (Balmain Cemetery no longer exists. It was turned into a park, named Pioneer Park, in the early 1900s.)

Charles and Elizabeth had five children before moving to Australia in 1842. They were:

Mary Ann Martha was born on February 8th 1832 and baptised on September 2nd 1832 at St Luke's, Old Street, London. Mary married William Green on March 4th 1852 at Sydney, Australia; they had at least two children. Mary then married Charles Firness. Mary died on July 9th 1905 at Balmain and was buried on July 11th 1905 in the Field of Mars Cemetery, Sydney.

Harriot Eliza was baptised on August 27th 1834 at St John The Evangelist, Lambeth, England but died before the family went to Australia.

Eliza Sarah was born on November 11th 1835 in London and baptised on March 6th 1836 at St Luke's, Old Street, London. Eliza married Robert Henry Arthur on November 8th 1852 in Sydney. They had nine children. Eliza died on May 5th 1901 at Waterloo, NSW and was buried on May 6th 1901 in Rookwood Cemetery, Sydney. Robert died in 1892.

Emma was born about 1838 in London. She died on October 7th 1860 in Sydney and was buried on October 9th 1860 at Camperdown Cemetery, Sydney.

Charles William Jeremy was born on November 6th 1839 in London and married Margaret Mary Flynn on July 8th 1865 in Sydney. Margaret was born in 1844. They had eight children. Charles died on December 27th 1882 in Balmain, NSW and was buried in Rookwood Cemetery on December 29th 1882. Margaret died on August 27 1918 in Sydney and was buried on August 29th 1918 at Rookwood Cemetery.

Before the year was out after settling in Australia, George Samuel was born, on December 21st 1842 in Sydney and baptised on 24th April 1853 at St Phillip's Church, Sydney. George married Marian Dawes on May 21st 1863 in Sydney. Marian was born about 1852 at Chatham, Kent. George and Marian had ten children. George died on February 21st 1910 at Rozelle, NSW and was buried on February 23rd 1910 in the Field of Mars Cemetery, Ryde, NSW. Marian died on June 3rd 1926 at Balmain and was buried in Sydney.
