Our link to the Chapman family was made when on April 18th
1896 Ann Caroline Louisa Chapman (grandmother to our senior generation), married
William Kay (1871-1958) at the Leysian Hall, Holborn, London. Ann was born
on February 17th 1874 at 5 Bowling Green Walk, Hoxton, Shoreditch, London
and was the eldest child of nine born to Alfred Henry Chapman and Annaretta
Louisa Pritchard.
Marjorie Robbins, to whom we extend our thanks for providing much of the information
recorded on this website, is a granddaughter of Henrietta Chapman (sister
to Ann and second eldest child of Alfred and Annaretta).
Janet Lorraine Coatham (née Ferguson) is also due our gratitude for
providing much information about the family. Janet is a daughter of Mabel
Ethel Chapman (1889) who migrated to Canada toward the end of the first decade
of the 20th century to marry her childhood sweetheart, Frank Stephen Topple
in 1911. Frank died in a tragic accident in 1915; Mabel then married Thomas
Harrison Ferguson in 1917 (see Personal Histories under Nota Bene).
Ernest Charles Chapman, Mabel's elder brother, also migrated to Canada at
about the same time after marrying Etheldreda Blench in Bramshot, Hampshire,
England. Ernest went out first to set up home so Etheldreda could join him
later (see Personal Histories under Nota Bene).
